About

Well it looks like we’ve got one thing in common at least – I’m always curious to know a little bit about the people behind a website too!
So let me welcome you to our ‘About’ page although you’ll also find out more about our own personal relocation to the
Canary Islands in some of the earlier blog posts.
But just so I don’t have an unsatisfied reader straight away, I’ll fill you in on a few things which you might find of slight interest and who knows, we might have even more in common!
Originally from York, Yorkshire, in 2002 my partner David and I left the UK on a venture to find a new home somewhere in the Canaries. (We had already checked out Turkey, the Bahamas (crazy phase) and mainland Spain but in the end decided that surely we would find somewhere among the seven contrasting islands). First of all we stayed in Tenerife north and then Tenerife south followed by La Gomera, always searching our hearts and houses to see if this place looked like home. Next we went to La Palma where we fell head over heels in love with the island but couldn’t find a place to live.
There was nothing for it but to skip over to Gran Canaria and check it out .. followed by
Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. And La Graciosa, twice. OK, so we like traveling. That took almost 6 months which was a rather longer search than we had intended. By the end of it we were quite relieved to put away the suitcases and finally stop being ‘of no fixed abode.’
But along the way though we discovered a lot about renting property having stayed in all sorts of apartments and houses around the islands. We also discovered a lot about estate agents too! And above all we met some fantastic people – islanders, tourists and expats – each with a tale to tell.

Do you have a story to tell? I’d love to hear it!
